Mercedes revealed today the SLS AMG Electric Drive at this year's edition of the Paris motor show. Mercedes SLS AMG Electric Drive is probably the world's most powerful electric production at the moment. The power the electric SLS AMG, Mercedes uses four synchronous electric motors, which have a combined output of 552 kW (750 hp) and 1000 Nm of torque. With so much power under its hood, the Mercedes SLS electric is able to get from nought to 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 3.9 seconds. Its top speed is limited to 155 mph (250 km/h), but we're sure if set free it could do much more than that. According to Mercedes, the electric SLS AMG is able to run for 250 km on a full charge of the battery. The four motors of the Mercedes SLS electric drive, each weighing 45 kg, have a maximum speed of 13,000 rpm.
As you know, electric cars are silent. However, Merc's engineers developed the electric SLS so that it emits a generated sound during start-up and a more dynamic one when accelerating.
When developing the liquid-cooled lithium-ion high-voltage battery, AMG's engineers worked together with the team that developed the KERS system for the Formula 1 cars. Each battery includes 12 modules each having 72 lithium-ion cells. The battery of the Mercedes SLS AMG Electric can be recharged via a so-called wall box that provides a 22 kW quick-charge function.
In this way, the battery can be recharged in 20 hours.
Thanks to its four motors, the electric SLS has an all-wheel-drive system. This architecture ensures optimum traction for all four wheels thanks to a technology called Torque Dynamics. The Mercedes SLS Electric's AMG Torque Dynamics system offers three driving modes: Comfort (C), Sport (S), and Sport plus (S+). To make sure you'll be able to stop this electric beast, Mercedes equips it with ceramic composite brakes featuring 402 x 39 mm discs at the front and 360 x 32 mm ones at the rear.
The Mercedes SLS AMG Electric comes equipped with carbon-fiber exterior mirrors and engine compartment cover, COMAND APS, a Media Interface, Blind Spot Assist and a reversing camera standard.
The Mercedes SLS Electric's price is set at 416,500 euros. It will go on sale next year.
