The latest reports say that Lotus is picking up the pace with the development of the new Lotus Esprit and the new Elise which should hit the market in 2012 and 2011. The 2012 Lotus Esprit will be developed based of the Evora, but it would be more generous in dimensions and will have a mid-engine layout. There are various opinions on the engine that will power the 2012 Lotus Esprit, but most of them say it will be a V8.
The launch of the new 2012 Lotus Esprit depends on whether or not the Evora will generate enough sales to sustain financially the development of the new version. If the business environment in the automotive industry improve, the new Lotus Esprit could see the showroom floor even sooner than the Evora convertible.
