Opel / Vauxhall revealed today the new Astra OPC Extreme Concept, which they plan to premiere next month at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show. Announced at the end of last month as a concept, the Opel Astra OPC Extreme is scheduled to going to be produced in limited numbers. Opel's Astra OPC Extreme is powered by a 2.0-liter turbo engine that develops more than 300 hp. The Astra OPC Extreme is based on the Opel Astra OPC Cup race car, which it was built to race on the Nurburgring Nordschleife. The Opel Astra Extreme keeps most of the parts of its racing sibling. Opel's Extreme Astra comes with a carbon fiber hood, direct injection and variable camshaft phasing, an all-aluminum engine block, a six-speed manual gearbox and a limited-slip diff.

Opel says that the Extreme version of the Astra OPC is 100 kg lighter than the standard version of the hot hatch.

The lower weight comes from using carbon fiber for building the rear wing, the diffuser, the front spoiler, the hood, the suspension cross-bracing, the engine cover, the complete wheels, the rear wheelhouse ventilation and the roof. The carbon wheels are 20 kg lighter than the standard aluminum ones.

The Opel Astra OPC Extreme's roof weighs just 2.6 kg. Its fenders are made of aluminum and weigh just 800 g.

Opel equips the Astra OPC Extreme with Brembo brakes with six-piston calipers and 370 mm discs at the front. The Astra OPC Extreme sits on 19-inch tires and adjustable springs and dampers.

At the interior, the Astra OPC Extreme has just two Recaro front seats, a roll bar, Schroth six-point safety belts, and a carbon-fiber-reinforced, suede-covered steering wheel. The Opel Astra OPC Extreme's price and availability are going to be announced at a later date.
