Peugeot released today the details of their SXC concept car, ahead of the vehicle's debut at Auto Shanghai 2011. The SXC concept was designed by the Peugeot Style Studios of the China Tech Center and represents a study of a modern crossover. The Peugeot SXC concept is a four-door vehicle measuring 4.870 m in length, 1.610 m in height and 2.035 m in width. Its styling aims to express strength and power through simple and refined lines.

Some of the most interesting design features of Peugeot's SXC concept include the "feline" headlamps, the LED daytime running lights, and the boomerang-shaped rear lamps. The Peugeot SXC sits on huge 22 inch wheels and comes with reverse-hinged doors and a two-part panoramic roof.

Peugeot went for a hybrid powertrain with the SXC, featuring a 1.6 liter THP petrol engine developing 160 kW (218 bhp) and 280 Nm of torque (300 Nm with overboost function) and an electric motor with a continuous output of 40 kW (54 bhp) and 102 Nm of torque. The maximum power and torque of the electric motor are rated at 70 kW (95 bhp) and 178 Nm. With this setup, Peugeot's SXC concept is good for 230 kW (313 bhp), which is quite reasonable taking into account its size. The SXC is fitted with 6-speed electronically controlled manual transmission.

The Peugeot SXC is a real performer when it comes to efficiency. Its fuel consumption in the combined cycle is rated at 48.7 mpg while its CO2 emissions are 143 g/km.

Peugeot has not yet stated their intentions with the SXC concept. It could be just a design study, but it could also go into production at some point in the future.
