As anticipated, Porsche has revealed the Coupe version of the 918 concept as this year's Detroit auto show. The 918 Coupe has been presented as the Porsche 918 RSR race car which is a high-end, two-seater mid-engine coupe. The Porsche 918 RSR has under its skin the same powertrain as the 911 GT3 R hybrid, which was an attention magnet during races on the Nurburgring race track. The Porsche 918 RSR is powered by a direct injection V8 engine developing 563 hp at 10,300/rpm. The internal combustion engine of the Porsche 918 RSR powers its rear wheels. However, the Porsche 918 RSR has two more party tricks up its sleeve. The front wheels are powered by two electric motors which output together a total of 150 kW. This means the total power output of the Porsche 918 RSR is a massive 767 hp.
The electric motors of the Porsche 918 RSR offer torque vectoring with variable torque distribution to the front axle.
The Porsche 918 RSR comes with a racing transmission taken of a RS Spyder race car. This means it has a ix-speed constant-mesh transmission with longitudinally mounted shafts and straight-toothed spur gears. you change gears in a Porsche 918 RSR by means of two shift paddles mounted behind the racing steering wheel.
The Porsche 918 RSR is a laboratory race car, which will be used by the German carmaker for developing new technologies. Some of those, will find their way into future Porsche production models.
