The British press got hold of the first details of the Range_e - the Range Rover hybrid which will hit the market sometime in 2013. The Range_e Range Rover hybrid is based on the 'Sport' and will be powered by a diesel-electric powertrain. The exact details of this powertrain are not available yet. The Range_e Range Rover hybrid will begin testing later this year, but the production version will not be available until 2013.

The Range_e Range Rover hybrid will be just the first of its kind in the brand's line-up. It will be followed shortly by the hybrid versions of the full-size Range Rover and Land Rover Discovery.

The Range_e Range Rover hybrid will be more than

100 kg heavier than the standard version due to the addition of the batteries and electric motor. This will most certainly influence its performance. The Range_e Range Rover hybrid however, will use the new ZF eight-speed automatic transmission.

The Range_e Range Rover diesel hybrid will be made available in Europe and other markets at first. It will probably be followed by a petrol hybrid version.

We'll have more details on the Range_e Range Rover hybrid as soon as they become available.
