Last weekend, driver Simona de Silvestro has been involved in a horrific crash and fire during the Texas Motor Speedway Firestone 550K race as part of the 2010 IndyCar series. Simon hit her IndyCar racer against the concrete barrier after which it caught fire. It took the emergency crew more than minute to take her out of the inferno as the car was half engulfed in flames. It's not clear at the moment why the fire retardant materials didn’t work and why she had difficulties in getting out of the car. Some blame the rescue crew for this hickup which could have ended in a disaster. As far as we know, Simona did not suffer major injuries.
