Toyota announced today that it will debut the Prius Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle, or PHEV, at the Frankfurt Motor Show on 15th September, 2011. Toyota's Plug-in Hybrid Prius features a revised, and more compact, lithium-ion battery, which is able to offer an extended electric power only range. Toyota says that the Prius PHEV is able to offer an amazing fuel economy of up to 128.4mpg with a CO2 emissions level of just 49 g/km. This means that the Plug-in Hybrid Electric (PHEV) Prius emits almost half as much CO2 as the regular model.

Toyota developed the new Prius PHEV in an attempt to meet two needs. The first one is the need for an extended EV range for city driving, while the second one is the need for an efficient vehicle,

with a low fuel consumption and a long range.

The Prius PHEV features Toyota's latest generation Hybrid Synergy Drive (HSD), as well as other technological innovations.

We'll have more details on the PHEV version of the Prius as soon as Toyota makes them available.
