The UK Press is reporting today that the speed camera funding by the British government has been stopped. Junior transport minister Mike Penning announced they consider they are investing to much money in speed cameras and they have become more of a cash cow than a road safety enforcer. He was very clear saying the "Central Government will not put any more money in".
From now on, city councils will have to invest their own money of they choose to install additional speed cameras. Penning is also offering the alternative of finding new ways of improving road safety. Ways that do not involve spending any more money on speed cameras.
This means that new cameras are less likely to
appear and that the one that are already installed will remain in their place.
