Chevrolet announced that the updated 2012 Corvette Z06 managed to set a new lap time record on the famous Nurburgring Nordschleife circuit in Germany. Corvette's engineer Jim Mero, managed to race his 2012 Z06 around the "Green Hell" in 7 minutes and 22.68 seconds. This is 20 seconds faster than the lap time set by the previous generation Z06, back in 2005. Chevy claims that the 2012 Corvette Z06 used for the successful attempt is completely standard, and that it has no performance modifications.

What's amazing about the new record set by the 2012 Z06, is that it's only 3 seconds slower than Corvette ZR1's fastest lap time.

The 2012 Corvette Z06 is powered by a 505 hp (377 kW) engine and it's equipped with the Performance

Traction Management and Magnetic Selective Ride Control systems, Brembo carbon ceramic brakes, and various carbon fiber aerodynamic components.
