When it comes to a Nurburgring speed record, the center of attention is usually a high performance, high powered car. Mini however, decided to go for a Nurburgring record in the new Mini E - the electric version of the Mini Cooper. They documented the attempt on video. The Video: Mini E Nurburgring record was set at 9 minutes and 51 seconds which is not bad at all. The Mini E was driven to success by former DTM driver Thomas Jaeger, who managed to get it to a top speed of 186.5 km/h.
The Mini E used for the Nurburgring speed record attempt was not a standard car. It has a lighter body, a roll cage, a lower and stiffer suspension and a re-mapped ECU.
