Smart released today the details and images of the updated 2012 ForTwo Electric Drive, which will go on sale next spring. The 2012 version of the electric ForTwo is Smart's third generation of the model, which will go into production in Hambach, France. Smart is planning to sell the 2012 electric ForTwo in 30 markets worldwide. The 2012 Smart ForTwo Electric Drive is powered by an electric motor, juiced by a 17.6 kWh lithium-ion battery developed by Deutsche ACCUmotive, which outputs 35 kW of constant power with a peak at 55 kW. Smart says that the maximum torque developed by the 2012 ForTwo Electric Drive is 130 Nm. In terms of performance, the 2012 ForTwo Electric is able to accelerate from 0 to 60 km/h in 5 seconds and it's able to reach a top speed of more than 120 km/h.

Even though those figures are not really impressive, they're more than what you need during city driving. Smart also mentions that the 2012 electric ForTwo is able to make the 0-62 mph (100 km/h) trip in less than 13 seconds.

When it comes to electric cars, one of the main focus points is its range. Smart says that the range of the 2012 ForTwo Electric Drive is more than 140 km.



The new generation 2012 Smart ForTwo Electric Drive can be completely re-charged from 0, via a 22 kW on-board charger, in less than an hour. This is a major advantage in comparison to other electric vehicles available on the market at the moment, which require a much longer re-charging time.

The equipment list of the 2012 Smart ForTwo Electric includes LED daytime driving lights, fully automatic air conditioning with pollen filter and pre-air conditioning, electric windows, electrically adjustable door mirrors, a trip computer, a leather steering wheel,

a leather gear knob, power steering, 9-spoke alloy wheels and a luggage compartment cover. Apart from this standard equipment, Smart also gives the new electric ForTwo all the iPhone functionality you can think of.
