General Motors released today the first teaser images of the new Opel Astra Cabrio which will come on the market next year, as a 2013 model. Opel / Vauxhall's design boss, Mark Adams, released this image a day after a prototype of the convertible Astra got caught by spy photographers. The Opel Astra cabriolet will be based on the three-door version of the model and it will replace the metal hard-top with a retractable canvas top. Judging from this image, it seems that the open-top version of the Opel Astra has a longer rear overhang than the hatchback.
Unfortunately, apart from this teaser, Vauxhall / Opel did not release any other details regarding the Astra cabrio.
However, we can make a few speculations. The Astra Cabrio will probably get the same engine line-up and transmissions as the hard-top version. We can go even further and speculate that in the future, we'll see VXR / OPC / GTC versions of the Opel Astra Cabrio too.
We'll have more details on the 2013 Opel Astra Cabrio as soon as they're available.
