As we expected, the 2013 Porsche Cayman had its world premiere today during the opening day of the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show. With new proportions, a 30 kg lower weight and a 40 per cent stiffer body, the new Porsche Cayman (2013) aims to continue the success of its predecessor, which is one of the best "driver's car" around. The 2013 Cayman has a 60-mm extended wheelbase with shorter overhangs and 18- or 19-inch diameter wheels. The base 2013 Porsche Cayman is powered by a 2.7-litre 6-cylinder engine that develops 275 hp (202 kW), which can be mated to a standard 6-speed manual gearbox or an optional 7-speed PDK double-clutch transmission. With this powertrain, the 2013 Cayman can get from nought to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 5.7 seconds (5.6 with PDK; 5.4 with Sport Chrono package) and to reach a top speed of 165 mph (164 mph with PDK). The fuel consumption is rated at 34.4 mpg with 192 g/km CO2 emissions (PDK: 36.7 mpg, CO2 180 g/km).

The 2013 Porsche Cayman S is powered by a 3.4-litre flat-six cylinder engine with 325 hp (239 kW) and it offers the same transmission options. The 2013 Cayman S can accelerate from zero to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 5.0 seconds (4.9 sec. with PDK, 4.7 sec. with Sport Chrono). Porsche rates the new Cayman S (2013) with a top speed of 176 mph (174 mph with PDK), a 32.1 mpg fuel economy (35.3 PDK) and a 206 g/km CO2 emissions level (188 g/km with PDK). Unfortunately, Porsche did not disclose the torque output of either models.

Porsche says that the new engines are 15 per cent more fuel-efficient thanks to petrol direct injection, thermal management, electrical system recuperation and the auto start/stop function. The Sport Chrono package comes with the PDK gearbox, and it includes a Sport Plus button, a Launch Control function, and dynamic transmission mounts.

The equipment list of the new Porsche Cayman (2013) includes Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), a high-resolution 4.6-inch VGA multi-function screen, the Sport Seat Plus system, and a larger boot space of 425 liters (15 liter more than before). Porsche also equips the 2013 Cayman with a new sound system develop in collaboration with Burmester, that includes a 140 mm active 'body-in-white' subwoofer, a 300 Watt Class-D amplifier, and twelve amplifier channels with a total of 800 Watts.

The 2013 Porsche Cayman's price starts at £39,694 GBP, while the 2013 Cayman S is going to cost you at least £48,783. The prices for Ireland are €68,460 and €84,136 respectively. The new Cayman is going on sale in Great Britain in March next year. You can find all the specifications of the new Cayman (2013) here and a detailed presentation here.
