Porsche released this week the first teaser images of the future 718 Boxster and of the 718 Cayman. At the same time their engine specs have also started to surface. Apparently, the Porsche 718 Boxster and the Porsche 718 Cayman are going to be sold with a choice between a 2.0-liter turbo and a 2.5-liter turbocharged engine. The 2.0-liter turbo engine is rumored to output 300 hp and 349 Nm of torque. The engine's redline is expected to be at 7,400 rpm. The Porsche 718 Cayman S and the Porsche 718 Boxster S will be offered with either a 2.4-liter or a 2.5-liter turbo engine. The output of these engines is expected to be in the region of 360 hp and 400 Nm of torque. The new sportscars will come with a Variable Turbine Geometry (VTG) turbocharger, similar with the one used in the new 911 Turbo.

In terms of performance, various sources are reporting that the Porsche 718 Boxster will accelerate from zero to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 5.5 seconds, while its S version is going to need 5.0 seconds to reach the same speed. Our sources say that the new 718 Boxster is going to be almost 100 kg heavier than the current version of the model. However, it full efficiency will drop by about 4 mpg (1 liter /100 km).

The Porsche 718 Boxster and Cayman are expected to debut at the Geneva Motor Show next March.
