The latest generation 2013 Porsche Boxster and its more powerful sibling, the 2013 Boxster S, have been revealed today. Lighter than its predecessor, and with a little extra horsepower, the 2013 Porsche Boxster hopes to build on the success of the previous versions. Porsche says that both the Boxster and the Boxster S benefit from a completely re-designed body and chassis. Even though the Stuttgart carmaker says both versions of the roadster are considerably lighter, it fails to mention by how much.

In comparison to the previous version, the 2013 Boxster has a wider track, a longer wheelbase and larger wheels. This should greatly improve its driving characteristics, however, this could also mean that the 2013 Boxster will be less "tail-happy".

Porsche gave the 2013 Boxster shorter overhangs, a new windscreen, which now seats closer to the front of the car, and a flatter body. These new surfaces should improve the car's aerodynamic characteristics.

Another improvement brought by the Porsche Boxster 2013 is in the efficiency department. The new Boxster family needs around 15% less fuel and, depending on the model, it consumes eight liters of fuel per 100 kilometers at most.

There's not much to say about the 2013 Boxster's interior, except that it now offers more room for the driver and passenger, together with a more ergonomic center console. Both, the 2013 Porsche Boxster S and the standard Boxster now feature an electrically operated canvas top, which retracts under a lid located behind the seats.

The 2013 Porsche Boxster is powered by a 2.7-liter flat 6-cylinder engine, which outputs 265 hp (195 kW) and an undisclosed amount of torque. This is 10 hp more than the previous version of the mid-engine sportscar. The 2013 Porsche Boxster is rated with a 7.7 l/100 km (36.7mpg) fuel consumption, when equipped with the double-clutch transmission. Porsche says it can accelerate from zero to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 5.7 seconds.

The 2013 Porsche Boxster S hides under its skin a 3.4-litre flat-six engine, which is good for 315 hp (232 kW). This is only 5 hp more than before. The 2013 Porsche Boxster S is rated with a 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) acceleration time of 5.0 seconds and a 8.0 l/100 km (35.3mpg) fuel consumption when equipped with the PDK gearbox.

Both the 2013 Porsche Boxster and the 2013 Porsche Boxster S comes with direct gasoline injection, thermal management, a start/stop system and energy recuperation. The 2013 Boxster range is delivered as standard with a six-speed manual gearbox, but Porsche is also offering the PDK transmission as an optional extra.

The equipment list of the Porsche Boxster 2013 range includes 18-inch alloys, remote control hood operation, a CD sound system with a 7-inch color touch-screen control, MP3 connectivity and the stuff we all love - Alcantara. In addition, the 2013 Porsche Boxster S comes equipped with Bi-Xenon headlights, 19-inch light alloy wheels and some leather at the interior.

The Sport Chrono Package for the 2013 Boxster includes dynamic transmission mounts and the Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV) system, which features a mechanical rear axle differential lock.

The 2013 Porsche Boxster price list starts at 48,291 EUR for the base model and at 59,120 EUR for the Boxster S. In the UK, the base model will cost at least £37,589 GBP, while the 2013 Boxster S will make your wallet £45,384 GBP lighter. The 2013 Porsche Boxster range goes on sale this April.
