Aston Martin released today a sketch of the new Vantage GT3 race car, which will replace the DBRS9. The new Aston Martin Vantage GT3 is based on the V12 version of the road car and will enter the racing season next year, in 2012. Aston Martin's current racer, the DBRS9, was launched back in 2006 at Le Mans. It was built in 26 units and won several competitions, including the Australian GT at Mount Panorama in October last year.

The Vantage GT3 will join Aston Martin's racing model range, which also includes the Vantage GT2, GT4, DBR9 GT1 and the AMR-One LMP1.

Aston Martin's Vantage GT3 is built on the aluminum VH architecture and will be powered by

a 6.0 liter V12 engine with a lightweight dry-sump. The Vantage GT3 will feature a semi-automatic paddle shift Xtrac racing transmission, and newly developed ABS and traction control. Aston Martin hopes to take the new Vantage GT3 to a maximum weight of 1250 kg and a power output of 600 bhp and 700 Nm of torque.

Aston Martin will finish the first prototype of the Vantage GT3 in July 2011, after which it will start testing it.

The first Aston Martin Vantage GT3 units will be delivered to their customers at the beginning of the 2012 season.

The price of the Aston Martin Vantage GT3 is still kept a secret.
