 »  »  »

Audi unveiled last night, before of the 2011 Frankfurt auto show's official opening day, the spyder version of their new Urban concept. The Urban concept is Audi's latest city car, which promises to offer open air motoring with zero emissions. Just as the sportback version of the Urban concept, the Spyder is powered by two electric motors, good for 20 hp and 47 Nm of torque. The Audi Urban Concept Spyder gets the electricity from a 7.1 kWh lithium-ion battery, which is able to offer a range of up to 73 km and can be recharged in an hour from a regular 230V power outlet. The performance of the Audi Urban Concept Spyder in not really very impressive, but its enough for city driving. The 0 to 62 mph (0-100 km/h) acceleration takes more than 16 seconds, and the vehicle is limited to a top

speed of 100 km/h. The maximum speed allowed in most European cities is 50 km/h or 60 km/h. The Urban concept Spyder can get from 0 to 60 km/h in 6 seconds which is pretty decent.

Audi did not announce any plans of putting the Audi Urban Concept Spyder or its Sportback version into production. However, as some point in the future, the Ingolstadt car maker might just offer such a vehicle in its commercial model line-up.
