Audi Wins Le Mans 24 Hours 2011

Last weekend, Audi managed to get their 10th win at Le Mans 24 Hour 2011, racing with the new Audi R18 TDI. In front of 250,000 spectators and millions in front of their TVs, Marcel Fassler (Switzerland), Andre Lotterer (Germany) and Benoit Treluyer (France) took their Audi R18 TDI to victory, taking the first place from Peugeot. The victory was close. after 24 hours of racing, Audi won with a lead of just 13.420 seconds in front of Peugeot. On the 229th race lap, Andre Lotterer managed to beat the fastest time of 3m 25.289s, which was set in qualifying.

The Audi R18 TDI with number "2" performed perfectly the entire race. Audi says the car never had to come to the pits, aside from the regular scheduled stops.

Audi won the Le Mans 24 Hours 2011, but one of their cars had one of the most horrific crashes in the history of the race. Allan McNish driving the Audi R18 TDI number "3" was in the lead before the first hour, when he got hit by a GT car. His Audi R18 racer hit the barrier and rolled over. Fortunately, Allan was not injured in this unfortunate event.
