BMW 4 Series Hybrid Announced

 »  »  »

BMW announced today that they're going to introduce the hybrid version of the 4 Series at the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show. The BMW 4 Series Hybrid is going to be joined on the Bavarian carmaker's stand by the 4 Series Coupe, the new i8 and i3, the 5 Series Sedan and the 5 Series Gran Turismo. Even though BMW did not officially announce it, the 4 Series Hybrid will probably get the same powertrain as the BMW 3 Series Hybrid (ActiveHybrid 3). If this is the case, it means that the hybrid 3 Series is going to be powered by a twin-turbo 3.0-liter 6-cylinder petrol engine and an electric motor. With this powertrain, the hybrid BMW 4 Series (or the ActiveHybrid 4 if we keep the naming scheme) is going to have an output of 340 hp and 450 Nm of torque.

The hybrid 3 Series is able to get from zero to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 5.3 seconds. The 4 Series Hybrid is probably going to be lighter than the 3 Series, which means it will be a bit faster to 62 mph (100 km/h). The hybrid 4 Series could offer a fuel economy of 47.9 mpg imp (5.9 liters per 100 km) and a CO2 emissions level of 139 g/km.

We'll have more details about the BMW ActiveHybrid 4 as soon as its manufacturer makes them available.
