The BMW 4 Series marks the beginning of a new line of coupes in the carmaker's history. Our waiting is close to an end, as the Bavarian car manufacturer plans to put the new 4 Series coupe on sale towards the end of this summer. Although they might seem to have the same dimensions, the BMW 4 Series is slightly larger than the current 3 Series. The 4 Series is inch (26 mm) longer (182.6 in / 4,638 mm), it has a 2-inch (50-mm) longer wheelbase (110.6 in / 2,810 mm), and a 0.6 inches (16 mm) lower roofline (53.6 in / 1,362 mm). The 4 Series is also 1.7inch (43-mm) wider than the 3 Series coupe (71.9 in / 1,825 mm). BMW is going to sell the 4 Series Coupe with a range of petrol and diesel engines and with a choice between a rear-wheel-drive system, and the xDrive all-wheel-drive system.
In the United States, BMW is going to sell the 4 Series coupe with two engine options: the 435i and the 428i. The BMW 435i is powered by the award-winning 3.0-liter 6-cylinder engine that's good for 300 hp between 5,800 and 6,000 rpm and 300 lb-ft of torque between 1,200 rpm and 5,000 rpm. BMW rates the 435i with a 0-60 mph acceleration time of 5.3 seconds and with a 155 mph top speed. The BMW 428i comes with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine that develops 240 hp at 5,000 – 6,500 rpm and 255 lb-ft of torque between 1,250 and 4,800 rpm. The 428i is rated with a 0-60 mph acceleration time of 5.7 seconds and with a top speed of 155 mph.
The BMW 4 Series is going to be available in the USA with a choice between a 6-speed manual transmission and an 8-speed automatic.
On the UK market, apart from the 435i and the 428i, the BMW 4 Series is also going to be available as the 420d, the 420i, the 430d and the 435d. The BMW 420i is powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine that's good for 184 hp and 270 Nm of torque. The BMW 420d is powered by a 2.0-liter turbo-diesel engine that develops 184 hp and 380 Nm of torque. The BMW 430d and the 435d comes with the same 3.0-liter 6-cylinder turbo diesel engine. The 430d develops 258 hp and 560 Nm, while the BMW 435d is good for 313 hp and 630 Nm of torque.
The BMW 4 Series Coupe comes with a near-perfect 50:50 weight distribution and the lowest center of gravity in the carmaker's current line-up. The 4 Series comes with some of BMW's latest technological developments, including the Air Curtains and Air Breathers. The 4 Series Bimmer also features Auto Start-Stop and an ECO PRO driving mode. The equipment list of the BMW 4 Series include the latest generation Navigation System, a full-color Head-Up Display, Driving Assistant Plus, glare-free LED High Beam Assistant and the carmakers latest Active Cruise Control system with Stop & Go. BMW is going to make the 4 Series available in three trim levels: Sport Line, Luxury Line and M Sport.
