
GM announced today the name of their new small car for the USA - the Chevrolet Sonic. The Chevrolet Sonic is meant to give the American automotive giant a new start in the small car segment. Actually, Sonic is the name of the Chevrolet Aveo (which is already on sale in various markets across the globe) for the American market. The model will be marketed under the Chevrolet Sonic name in various countries, including the USA, Canada and Mexico. GM describes the Chevrolet Sonic as being roomy, stylish and fun to drive as well as being youthful, energetic.
GM has not released any actual details regarding the Chevrolet Sonic, except the fact that it will enter production in 2011 at their Orion Assembly
Center in Michigan. The Chevrolet Sonic will bring around 1,000 jobs in the metropolitan Detroit area and represents a 545 million USD investment upgrades and retooling.
"The Chevrolet Sonic represents a new beginning for Chevrolet in the small car segment and so we felt it was time to give it a new name," said Chris Perry, vice president, Chevrolet U.S. Marketing. "The new car is roomy, stylish and fun to drive, and Chevrolet Sonic is a youthful, energetic name that helps convey what this vehicle is about."


The Chevrolet Sonic price list will be announced at a later date.
