After the Italian carmaker has revealed the two-cylinder version of the mini, the first rumors regarding a Fiat 500 Hybrid have started to surface. According to the British press, the car manufacturer is developing the Fiat 500 Hybrid which will offer a 100 mpg fuel economy!

The Fiat 500 Hybrid will be powered by the new 2-cylinder engine that will work in conjunction with an electric motor. This means the Fiat 500 Hybrid will have a 900 cc petrol engine that in a turbocharged form outputs 85 hp and 145 Nm of torque. The addition of an electric motor will drop the CO2 emissions level to 70g/km. Apart from the gasoline engine, the Fiat 500 Hybrid will also have a small electric motor, integrated in the gearbox, developing another 8 hp.

The powertrain of the Fiat 500 Hybrid will feature a twin-clutch transmission.

The electric motor will be juiced by a battery pack located under the hood of the Fiat 500 Hybrid.

The Fiat 500 Hybrid price and availability are not yet known, but the new 'green' model is expected to hit the market sometime before 2012.
