Lotus announced today that the Exige R-GT's racing debut will take place in April in the FIA European Rally Championship. Today the carmaker showed the Exige R-GT covered in the company's traditional black and gold livery, with which it will compete in this year's rally season. Bernardo Sousa will race the new Exige R-GT in the Rally 1000 Miglia in Brescia, Italy, on 19-21 April. After this, the car will undergo more testing, before being submitted for FIA homologation.
The Lotus Exige R-GT rally car is powered by the model's standard 3.5-liter V6 engine, which suffered some modifications. The output of the unit, which is mated to a 6-speed sequential gearbox, is rated at 302 hp.
In comparison the production Exige, the R-GT features several other modifications, which are meant to make it competitive and to comply with FIA's standards.
