Fifth Gear recently tested the new diesel MINI Cooper SD and released last week their video review of the convertible version. The MINI Cooper SD, in both coupe and convertible body styles, together with the Countryman SD and the Clubman SD, are all powered by the same 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel engine. This is the biggest engine Mini ever fitted one of their models and it has an output of 105 kW/143 hp at 4,000 rpm and 305 Nm (225 lb-ft) of torque from 1,750 rpm to 2,700 rpm. The MINI Cooper SD convertible, which is the model tested in the clip, is able to get from 0 to 62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 8.7 seconds and has a top speed of 210 km/h (130 mph). The coupe version of the Mini Cooper SD is slightly faster, requiring just 8.1 seconds to reach the 62 mph mark. Its top speed is also higher (134 mph).

The S in SD comes from sport, but the D comes from diesel, which means a low fuel consumption. The convertible version of the MINI Cooper SD is rated at 62.8 mpg, or 4.5 liters per 100 km, and the coupe at 65.7 mpg, or 4.3 liters per 100 kilometers.
