Last week McLaren released a teaser image of the new 650S, which is scheduled to have its global debut at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show next month. However, McLaren presented the 650S over the weekend to a private audience. Here are the first images and initial details of the McLaren 650S. The new McLaren 650S is going to be a mid-range model, between the MP4-12C and the top of the range P1 hypercar. The McLaren 650S is powered by the 3.8-liter V8 twin-turbo engine, which should have a power output of around 650 hp. Early indications say that the 650S is going to need less than 4 seconds to get from nought to 62 mph (100 km/h) and that it's going to be able to reach a top speed of around 300 km/h. In terms of design, the 650S looks like the result of a hot night between the 12C and the P1.

The McLaren 650S' front fascia looks like the one of the P1, while its rear end is inspired by the 12C.

We'll have more details about the McLaren 650S as soon as its manufacturer makes them available.

UPDATE: As we were writing this, McLaren has just released new official details about the 650S. McLaren also announces that the P1 is already sold out. The McLaren 650S is going to be available as a coupe or as a Spider, with a retractable folding hard top.

McLaren's 650S promises to redefine the high-performance supercar segment. Just as we suspected, the 650S develops 650PS (641 bhp) thanks to the M838T twin turbo V8 engine. McLaren equips the 650S with LED headlights, a new front splitter that offers more downforce, and a pair of door blades behind the front wheels that help the aerodynamics of the supercar. In comparison to the 12C, at 150 mph, the 650PS develops 24 percent more downforce. According to Mike Flewitt, McLaren's Automotive CEO, this new front bumper greatly improves downforce and steering turn-in.

The McLaren 650S comes with uniquely designed wheels and Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires, the Airbrake system (the active rear wing), and a distinctive rear three-piece bumper, which was first seen on the 12C GT3 racing version.

The 650S pioneers McLaren's ProActive Chassis Control (PCC) suspension system that offers three ride and handling modes: Normal, Sport and Track. The McLaren 650S' equipment list includes IRIS satellite navigation with Bluetooth telephony, DAB digital radio (SIRIUS satellite radio in North America), wireless tethering, audio streaming and voice control as standard. The McLaren 650S' optional equipment list includes fixed-back carbon racing seats, an electric steering column adjustment assisting ingress and egress, a rear parking camera and various carbon fiber interior trim parts.

The McLaren 650S' price list, availability and full specifications are going to be revealed at a later date.
