Apart from the regular, production version of the 2012 B Class, Mercedes also premiered this year in Frankfurt the B Class E-Cell Plus concept. Merc's B Class E-Cell Plus is an electric model, equipped with a range extender, which is expected to go into production in 2014. The Merc's E-Cell Plus concept has the same exterior dimensions as the regular B Class, offers five seats, and it's powered by a permanently excited synchronous machine. The Mercedes B Class E-Cell Plus develops 100 kW / 136 hp of maximum power, 70 kW / 95 hp of contiguous power and has a top speed of 150 km/h. The new E-Cell Plus B Class needs 11 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) and has a 32 g/km CO2 emissions level.

Mercedes says that the range of the B Class E-Cell Plus when running on electricity only is

100 km. however, this range is extended to 600 km by the concept's internal combustion engine. Mercedes also equips the B Class E Cell-Plus with a 1.0-liter 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol range extender engine, which outputs 50 kW at 3,500 rpm, and is used to re-charge the car's battery. The B Class E Cell-Plus features a Lithium-ion battery, located in the boot, under a false floor. The battery can also be recharged public charging station through a socket and a 3.3 kW on-board charger.



The Mercedes B Class E-Cell Plus is equipped with all the systems you would expect from one of Daimler's products. It comes with Adaptive Highbeam Assist, Blind Spot Assist and Lane Keeping Assist, Attention Assist, and Speed Limit Assist. Other systems onboard the B Class E-Cell Plus include an active parking assist system, a brake and hill HOLD function, LINGUATRONIC, a reversing camera and PRE-SAFE.
