Mercedes will compete in the 2012 DTM (the German Touring car Championship) with the new C-Coupe AMG DTM, which had its world debut at the 2011 Frankfurt auto show today. The Mercedes C Coupe AMG DTM weighs 1050 kg (including the driver), and measures 5.010 mm in length, 1.950 mm in width, 1.210 mm in height and has a 2.750 mm wheelbase. With a 120 liter fuel tank, the new C-Class Coupe AMG DTM racer matches the specifications of its direct competitor: the Audi A5 DTM and the BMW M3 DTM.

Mercedes built the C-Coupe AMG DTM around a carbon fiber monocoque chassis, with steel roll cage, and gave it carbon fiber body panels all around. To power the new C-Coupe AMG DTM, Mercedes uses a 4.0-liter V8 engine with 4 valves

per cylinder, which develops around 500bhp at 7500 rpm and 500 Nm of torque. Mercedes did not release the performance figures of the new C-Coupe AMG DTM. Merc's new DTM racer comes with a 6-speed pneumatically operated sequential transmission with steering wheel mounted paddle shifters, a mechanical differential lock without traction control, a 3-plate carbon fiber clutch and a carbon fiber driveshaft.

For the C-Coupe AMG DTM, Mercedes chose a double wishbones suspensions system with springs and dampers for the front axle and pushrod suspension for the rear one.
