Even though the CLA Class has not been unveiled yet, Mercedes released today the details of its 4MATIC all-wheel-drive version, along with a few so-called spy images. The Mercedes CLA 45 AMG 4MATIC is going to be equipped with the German carmaker's latest version of the permanent all-wheel-drive system with fully variable torque distribution. Mercedes also announced that the CLA45 AMG is going to be premiered in 2013. We'll get a bit technical on this one. The Mercedes CLA45 AMG is equipped with the 7G-DCT automated dual clutch transmission and a rear-axle gear with integrated, electrohydraulically controlled multi-disk clutch. These two parts integrate a power take-off unit (PTU) to the rear axle. This setup enables fully variable distribution of the drive torque between front and rear axle and offers the system a lower weight.

The increase the efficiency of the vehicle, the CLA45 AMG's 4MATIC system is engaged only when necessary, which means that most of the time, the car runs on front-wheel-drive mode. Under heavy braking and when the ABS is enabled, the rear powertrain is deactivated and torque is reduced to zero. In the case of understeering or oversteering, the CLA45 AMG tries to stabilize itself by distributing the drive torque. In case it fails, then it engages the ESP or 4ETS.

The Mercedes CLA 45 AMG's transmission offers three driving modes: ECO, SPORT and MANUAL. Mercedes also disclosed today that the CLA45 AMG is powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo petrol engine that's good for more than 400 Nm of torque. They did not disclose its horsepower output. The CLA45 AMG is going to be equipped with COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST and other safety system.

We'll have more details regarding the Mercedes CLA 45 AMG as soon as they're available.
