Nissan announced today that the GT-R Nismo has set the fastest drift world record and that it has entered in the Guinness Book of Records. A few days ago, Nissan announced that the GT-R Nismo has set a new world record, but at that time, the Japanese carmaker kept the details a secret. Today they revealed that the GT-R Nismo is the fastest drifting car in the world. However, this was not your average GT-R Nismo, this Godzilla is developing 1,380 hp and it comes with rear-wheel-drive (the standard GT-R is all-wheel-drive). For developing this monster GT-R, Nissan and Nismo worked in collaboration with GReddy. Based on the 2016 GT-R, the car was developed under the coordination of Masato Kawabata, who is the Japanese drift champion.
Here come the details of the fastest drift world record. With Kawabata at the wheel, this Nissan GT-R Nismo managed to drift at a speed of 189.49 mph (304.96 km/h) and at a 30 degrees angle. The world record was set on the Fujairah International Airport, UAE.
Preparing for this attempt, this GT-R Nismo was tested extensively on the Fuji Speedway in Japan.
