General Motors unveiled today the new generation, 2012 Vauxhall / Opel Astra ecoFLEX which promises to deliver a very low 99 g/km CO2 emissions level. Opel's 2012 Astra ecoFLEX is able to offer such low emissions thanks to its 1.7 CDTI turbo-diesel engine with common-rail technology, which has an output of 96 kW/130 hp and 300 Nm of torque between 2,000 rpm and 2,500 rpm. To also lower the fuel consumption of the new Astra ecoFLEX, Opel equips it with improved aerodynamics, a 12 mm-lowered chassis, 215/60 R 16 or 215/50 R 17 ContiEcoContact 5 tires with reduced rolling resistance and a Start / Stop system. What Opel forgot to mention is what is the exact fuel consumption of the new Astra ecoFLEX. Maybe they'll disclose the figures at a later date.

To lower the green gas emissions of the Astra ecoFLEX, Opel uses several technologies, including Clean Tech Combustion, braking energy recuperation, new engine and thermal management systems, a new 6-speed gearbox with reduced friction, and LED daytime running lights. We're not really sure how the LEDs help reduce CO2, but that's what Opel says.

The 2012 Opel Astra ecoFLEX price and availability will be announced at a later date.
