Various sources are reporting today that BMW is currently working on a highly fuel-efficient car. According to the rumor, BMW's new model is going to offer as much as 588 mpg US (0.4 liters per 100 km or 706 mpg UK). As you can imagine, BMW has not confirmed this rumor yet, but as you know, where there's smoke, there's also a fire. Out German sources report that the new BMW model is going to emit just 10 grams of CO2 per kilometer, which is absolutely unbelievable. The new 588 mpg BMW model is going to offer four seats, and a 348-liter boot. In comparison, the Volkswagen XL1, which is currently the most fuel efficient vehicle, offers just two seats and 120 liter of boot space. The fuel-efficient Bimmer will come with an aerodynamic coefficient of Cd 0.18 and it will weigh just 1,200 kg.

Early indications say that the new BMW model is going to be built with a chassis and body made entirely of carbon fiber.

BMW's future 0.4 l/100 km is going to be powered by an electric motor. It will also have a 2-cylinder petrol engine, which is going to be used as an electricity generator only. We will have more details about BMW's new model as soon as they are available.
