No, we made no mistake. VW revealed today the new 2012 Volkswagen Passat CC, which lost the word "Passat" from its name. Now it's just the Volkswagen CC. Apart from the obvious name change, the 2012 VW CC comes with a completely new look. At the front, Volkswagen's CC features new headlights, with integrated LED daytime running lights, a new chromed grill, and a new front bumper with integrated fog lights and other chrome styling accents. For the 2012 CC, Volkswagen also designed a new hood and new alloy wheels. At the rear, the 2012 Passat CC (we'll keep calling it a Passat for a while) shows the same trunk lid design. However, it's rear bumper and taillights have been re-styled. The 2012 CC's rear light clusters are now made of LEDs and have a much sleeker design.

The Volkswagen CC comes equipped with bi-xenon headlights and static cornering lights. It's obvious VW's concern with making the CC look more "premium" than before. To increase the comfort and safety of the 2012 CC, VW also equips it with stainless steel door sill plates, safety head restraints with additional longitudinal adjustment. Also standard are the RCD 310 radio-CD system and the driver fatigue detection system.

Optionally, the Volkswagen CC can be fitted with Side Assist Plus with integrated Lane Assist, and Dynamic Light Assist.

The DLA is Volkswagen's new automatic high-beam control system. Also for safety reasons, Volkswagen’s CC is equipped with camera-based traffic sign detection system.

For those of you with back problems, VW can switch the CC's standard front seats with optional ones, featuring an internal climate control system and an integrated massage function. To create a nier atmosphere inside the cabin, you'll be able to equip your new CC with panoramic glass roof. An interesting new feature of the CC is the towbar, which can be deployed electrically.

The Volkswagen CC comes with several updates in the engine compartment. For starters, all diesel versions come equipped with a Stop/Start system and battery regeneration as standard. The output of the Volkswagen CC TDI models ranges from 103 kW / 140 PS to 125 kW / 170 PS. In Europe, the petrol-powered 2012 Passat CC versions have the following output levels: 118 kW / 160 PS, 155 kW / 210 PS and 220 kW / 300 PS. The United States market will get only two gasoline-powered versions of the 2012 Volkswagen CC. These include the 147 kW / 200 PS (TSI) and the 206 kW / 280 PS (FSI) models.

The most fuel-efficient version of the Volkswagen CC is the 140 PS TDI model, equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission. The German carmaker says it has a 4.7 l/100 km fuel consumption and a 125 g/km CO2 emissions level.

In the UK, the Volkswagen CC will come with either a 1.8-litre TSI engine (160 PS), a 2.0-litre TSI unit (210 PS), or a 2.0-litre TDI common rail diesel engine (140 PS or 170 PS). The 2012 Passat CC versions with 170 PS or more are all equipped with an XDS differential, and an electronic cross-axle traction control system.

The Volkswagen CC will be premiered at the Los Angeles Auto Show and it will go on sale shortly after. The Volkswagen CC price list and full specifications will be announced soon.
