As announced last week, Volvo premiered today at the 2011 IAA auto show in Frankfurt the You concept. The Volvo You concept previews the brand's future design direction, and a future global large sedan. Volvo announced that they're currently running various studies, to find exactly what their global customers are expecting from this new sedan. In case you get the feeling you've seen the Concept You before, you have to know that it's in fact a further development of the Volvo Universe Concept, premiered at the Shanghai auto show last April.
With the Concept You, Volvo aims to blend contemporary Scandinavian design, with styling elements that have a global appeal. The production version of the You concept will be
a large four-door sedan, featuring a luxurious interior and exterior, which will address the premium market. The Volvo You gets closer and closer to the 4-door coupe body style, made famous by the Mercedes CLS.
Apart from the obvious styling elements, the You concept also previews Volvo's new Scalable Platform Architecture (SPA), together with a new and intuitive smart pad technology used for various connectivity needs.
The Volvo You features a so-called "touch-control cockpit", which basically means that all the controls of the car are incorporated in various touch-screens, which replace the traditional buttons. Volvo equips the You concept with a central Information Monitor (DIM), a head-up display, a touch-screen in the upper part of the center console and a touch-screen between the rear seats.
For entertainment purposes, Volvo's You concept features an Alpine infotainment system with an FreshAir subwoofer. This new subwoofer uses air from outside the cabin to produce sound, which, at the same time, refreshes at atmosphere inside the cabin.
Other features of the Volvo You include a leather, suede and suit fabric upholstery, hand-tufted wool carpets, a DuPont liquid metal exterior finish, Polestar ventilated brake discs, and 21-inch polished aluminum wheels.
