Back in 2012 Ford launched a road-legal one-seater Formula race car. In this clip, they put Ford's Formula car to the test against some pretty serious vehicles: the Audi R8, the BMW M6 and the Mercedes A45 AMG. The Formula Ford is powered by a 1.6-litre EcoBoost turbocharged engine equipped with direct injection. With an output of just 165 PS and 220 Nm of torque, the Formula Ford seems to be dwarfed by the mighty R8 supercar and the M6 Bimmer. However, the Formula Ford is a lot less heavy than its rivals in this race. In fact, the Formula Ford is a full-fledged one-seater race car, which has all the lights, indicators and safety features to comply with all the public streets regulations. In comparison, the Audi R8 is powered by a 5.2-liter V10 engine that develops 525 hp and 530 Nm of torque. The new BMW M6 is powered by a 4.4-liter V8 engine that has a horsepower output of 560 hp and 680 Nm of torque. Finally, the tiniest of the gang is the Mercedes A45 AMG, which is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine that's rated with an output of 360 hp and 450 Nm of torque.
So, the Formula Ford's rivals in this comparison test have two to three times more power and torque. Not to mention the fact that the Formula car is rear wheel drive, while the R8 and the A45 benefit from an all-wheel-drive system.
