FIA and its World Motor Sport Council have released today the 2011 Formula 1 regulations and the changes imposed to each team for the next season. The 2011 Formula 1 rules cover almost every aspect of the sport, from tires and safety to driver adjustable bodywork, weight and fuel draining.
From 2011, Pirelli will be the single tire supplier for the FIA Formula One World Championship for a period of three years.
Regarding new safety issues, the 2011 F1 FIA rules say that any car being driven unnecessarily slowly can be reported to the race stewards. Also regarding slow cars, FIA says that any driver whose best qualifying lap exceeds 107% of the
fastest Q1 qualifying time, will not be allowed to start the race.
Regarding the driver adjustable bodywork, FIA regulates that it can be activated during the race, only if the driver is using it for overtaking. The system will be electronically activated if the driver is less than one second behind another car. " With the exception of the parts necessary for the driver adjustable bodywork, any car system, device or procedure which uses driver movement as a means of altering the aerodynamic characteristics of the car is prohibited from 2011."
From 2011, the minimum weight for any F1 race car has been set to 640 kg at all times during the event. This also means when the fuel tank is almost empty.
