Suspected Bomb Detonated In Monaco F1 Paddock

The bomb disposal unit was called on Thursday, after a suspicious package was noticed in the paddock of this weekend's Formula 1 Grand Prix in Monaco. A plastic box was left outside the media center which, after being investigated by the police, was detonated at around 10 PM yesterday. Journalists and bystanders were pushed back by the police around 50 meters, in between Bernie Ecclestone's motorhomes. So far, Formula 1 has not issued an official statement regarding this unfortunate event. This is not the first time the bomb squad had to be called before the Monaco GP. In fact, this happened last year too. This doesn't mean that the small package was in fact a bomb. But it's better to be safe than sorry, right?

It's sad to see that a sporting event, which has a truly global appeal, is the target of such unsporty acts. The Monaco GP will take place this Sunday, at 14:00 CET.
