Toyota revealed today the 2012 Camry Hybrid, alongside the classic, combustion engine version of the four-door sedan. The 2012 Toyota Camry Hybrid features the same exterior and interior design changes as the gasoline model, as well as a few distinctive styling cues. The hybrid version of the 2012 Camry comes with a different front bumper, with a larger central air intake, a chromed front grille, different rims, badges and other chromed trim parts.
The 2012 Camry Hybrid is powered by a 2.5-liter, 4-cylinder, aluminum alloy block with aluminum alloy head combustion engine, which works together with an electric motor. The combustion engine of the hybrid 2012 Camry comes with 16-valve DOHC with VVT-i valvetrain and develops
156 hp at 5,700 rpm and 156 lb-ft of torque at 4,500 rpm on 87-octane or higher gasoline. The electric motor is good for 105 kW at 4,500 rpm and 199 lb.-ft. of torque between 0 and 1,500 rpm.
The electric motor of Toyota's new hybrid Camry is powered by Sealed Nickel-Metal Hydride (Ni-MH) battery pack, with a 244.8 V nominal voltage and a 6.5 ampere hour capacity.
Toyota did not announce the 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) acceleration time of the 2012 Camry hybrid, nor its top speed.
The fuel economy of the 2012 Toyota Camry Hybrid is rated at 43 mpg in the city, 39 mpg on the highway and 41 mpg on the combined cycle. The CO2 emissions level will be made public at a later date.
Toyota will sell the 2012 hybrid Camry with a choice between two trim levels, LE and XLE, and with a Electronically Controlled Continuously Variable Transmission.
The 2012 Toyota Camry Hybrid price list starts at $25,900 USD for the base, LE version, and goes up to $27,400 USD for the top of the range model.
