Toyota released at the end of last week the details, images and a presentation video of the updated 2012 Tacoma pickup truck. The styling chages brought by the 2012 Toyota Tacoma are minimal, and include a slightly modified front bumper, a new grille and hood and re-styled headlamps. At the interior, the 2012 Tacoma features a center console, new instruments and a new steerign wheel. The 2012 Tacoma's center console now features air conditioning and heater controls together with power point locations. Toyota's 2012 Tacoma Access and Double Cab now come with a heavy-duty all-weather floor. The high performaqnce version of the pick-up, the 2012 Tacoma TRD Sport, together with its Off-Road version, are now equipped with a water resistant upholstery.
The 2012 Toyota Tacoma 2.7L is powered by a 2.7-liter inline 4-cylinder, DOHC 16-valve engine with VVT-i, which outputs 159 hp at 5,200 rpm and 180 lb-ft of torque at 3,800 rpm. The 2012 Tacoma 2.7L is available with either a 5-speed manual transmission or a 4-speed ECT automatic gearbox and it has a payload of 1,385 lbs in the PreRunner Access Cab version. It's maximum towing weight is rated at 3,500 lbs.
The more powerful version of the 2012 Toyota Tacoma, the 4.0-liter V6 powered one, has an output of
236 hp at 5,200 rpm and 266 lb-ft of torque at 4,000 rpm. The 2012 Tacoma V6 comes with either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed ECT automatic transmission. The V6 2012 Tacoma is rated with a 1,450 lbs. maximum payload in the PreRunner Double Cab version and a maximum towing weight of 6,500 lbs.
Toyota will sell the 2012 Tacoma in arhitecture versions: 4x2 front engine with rear-wheel drive and 4x4 front engine with part-time four-wheel drive. It will be available in three cab versions: Regular, Access and Double.
Toyota is also keen to mention that the 2012 Tacoma X-Runner, which has the 4.0-liter V6 engine, is able to get from 0 to 60 mph in less than 7 seconds and that it can pull up to 0.9 G of lateral acceleration. The 2012 Tacoma TRD (Toyota Racing Development) is powered by the same 4.0-liter V6 engine, buty it also has a supercharger with Eaton Roots-type rotating components in a one-piece supercharger plenum/manifold casting. The output of the 2012 Tacoma TRD is rated at 304 hp and 334 lbs.-ft. of torque.
Other novelties brought by the 2012 Toyota Tacoma include a larger, 3.3-inch higher-resolution display a new temperature gauge, a rear-view mirror with compass and HomeLink and additional storage compartments.
