The 2013 Volkswagen Polo R WRC has been revealed last weekend, offering a bit more horsepower than previously announced. To power the new 2013 Polo R WRC, Volkswagen uses the same 1.6-litre TSI engine, which has been upgraded to output 232 kW (315 hp). This means it can accelerate from zero to 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 3.9 seconds. The power is sent to the wheels via a 6-speed sequential gearbox. The new Polo R WRC (2013) is able to accomplish this largely thanks to its low weight of just 1,200 kg. In comparison to the standard VW Polo R, the WRC rally racing version is 138-mm wider, with a total width of 1,820 mm. VW's 2013 Polo R WRC is going to be driven in the World Rally Championship by Sebastien Ogier with co-driver Julien Ingrassia (both France), and Jari-Matti Latvala and his co-driver Miikka Anttila (both Finland).

Volkswagen says that the new Polo R WRC is going to wear the Red Bull, but this does not mean the team is sponsored by the energy drink manufacturer. Red Bull was actively involved in the development of the new rally car, and this is the reason it's present on its livery.
