Audi announced today the A2 electric vehicle (EV), which will debut at the 2011 IAA in Frankfurt, and released a number of sketches of the new concept. The Audi A2 concept measures 3.80 m (12.47 ft) in length, 1.69 m(5.54 ft) in width and 1.49 m (4.89 ft) in height. Even though it's only 3.8 meters long, Audi says they can fit four adult passengers in the new A2 concept. The Audi A2 presents the next generation in LED headlights technology, called matrix beam. The new tech involves LEDs that work together with microreflectors to generate a high-resolution and non-glaring high-beam light. The LED low-beam light module of the Audi A2 is surrounded by daytime running light fibers. The Audi A2 also comes with tail lights that adapt according to the visibility level, and rear fog lights which

project a red triangular warning sign on the road, through laser diodes.

The Audi A2 has yet another lighting system, called "dynamic light", which runs below the side windows, but the company did not disclose its purpose. The same system is also found inside the cabin. Another innovation brought by the A2 is its unlocking system, which can be activated through gesture control.

At the interior, the Audi A2 features a unique steering wheel, with an integrated touch-control area for managing the various systems of the concept, plus another foldable control surfaces. The steering column features a 5-inch display and two secondary displays.

At this time, audi did not disclose the technical details of the A2, apart from the fact that it's powered by a long range electric drive system.

We'll have more details on the Audi A2 at the time of its premiere.
