Various sources are also reporting that sometime in the future, Audi will also launch a revised version of the current R8 GT. The 2016 Audi R8 GT is expected to output around 580 bhp. Since it will be at least four more years until we'll see an updated R8 GT, these specifications are subject to change.

Codenamed AU724, the 2014 Audi R* will keep the present AWD system, but it will come with a completely new exterior design. Audi plans to keep the weight of the R8 2014 below the 1,500 kg mark. This means that the future version will be considerably lighter then the present day version. Audi will also equip the future R8 with various fuel saving technologies, such as a start/stop system, brake energy recuperation and a sailing function.

We'll have more details on the 2014 R8 as soon as Audi makes them available.
