The internet is filled with all kinds of rumors and suppositions about the Audi R8 V10. The real facts that we can see up until this point are:
1. Audi did test an Audi R8 V10 that was equipped with two turbos. You might remember the photos of the burned wreck that flooded the net a few months ago. Quattro boss Werner Frowein "confessed" that the smoked R8 was really powered by the V10 engine. The reason it caught fire was that the turbos generated too much heat and because the R8 is a mid-engine vehicle it is a little difficult to cool the engine compartment. An Audi R8 V10 will still come on the market but the engine will be naturally aspirated.
2. Werner Frowein also stated that Audi is working on a V10 for the Audi R8 and here the opinions split in two: it's going to be either a revised version of the V10 engine in the Gallardo or a V10 developed on the bases of the V8 currently on the RS4 and the Audi R8. Werner Frowein also said that the new Audi R8 V10 will get just a little more than 500 hp.
3. Release date for the Audi R8 V10 - most speculations point towards the end of 2008.
