Audi RS1 Details

The Audi RS1 is confirmed today as its first prototype was spotted during testing on the Nurburgring. Audi are so confident that they didn't even cover the RS1 in camouflage tape. As you are expecting, the Audi RS1 is fitted with a new aerodynamics package. It includes a new front spoiler with large, RS3-style, air intakes on each side, new side skirts, a huge rear wing and a rear diffuser. At the rear, the RS1 is also equipped with double exhaust pipes, left and right. Audi's RS1 prototype spotted on the 'Ring sits on standard alloys. We're sure however, that the production version will have nicer rims than these.

Even though there aren't many RS3 details going around, we did manage to find out that it will be

powered by a 2.0-liter turbo engine. Early speculations say that the RS1 will develop around 280 hp. The surprising thing is that some sources expect the RS1 to have Audi's quattro all-wheel-drive system. However, we highly doubt that, since the quattro requires extra space underneath the car. It also adds another 100 kg or so to the overall weight of the vehicle. In any case, the Audi RS1 will send its power to the wheels via a 6-speed manual transmission.

The Audi RS1 is expected to sprint from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in around 5 second and to have a limited top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h).

The Audi RS1 will be premiered at the 2012 Geneva auto show and it will go on sale later next year. The RS1 will be priced at around 35,000 EUR.

The Audi RS1 will basically have the same body kit as the A1 clubsport concept (in the images). The Audi A1 clubsport was premiered at the Worthersee show this year.
