BMW Develops Laser Headlights

 »  »  »

With Audi being a pioneer in LED headlights, BMW had to come up with something even better and here it is - laser headlights. BMW's laser headlights and other types of lights for cars are still in development, but the Bavarian car manufacturer hopes they will go into production within a few years. Laser light is different from sunlight, the light coming from LEDs, or from traditional headlights. It has a higher intensity and it can be generated in the form of a near-parallel beam. A laser headlight would also require as much as 50% less energy than an LED one.

BMW says that their laser headlights pose no risks, because they don't emit light directly.

The very bright and white beam coming from them is converted so it's usable on the road.

BMW did not disclose any other further details regarding their new laser headlight technology.
