Recently, BMW's new 'green' concepts, the i8 and the i3, attended a photo shoot in Chicago. A lucky person passing by managed to catch both of them on video. BMW's new concepts are not wearing camouflage, so this is one of the first occasions to see both of them live. The i8 and the i3 concepts represent BMW's answer to today's environmental issues. The BMW i8 is a 2+2 sports car, with a 3 liters per 100 km (94 mpg) fuel consumption, that's able to get from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in less than 5 seconds. To be able to achieve these figures, BMW equipped the i8 concept with a hybrid system consisting of a 170 hp and 250 Nm electric motor, which powers the front axle, and a 220 hp and 300 Nm combustion engine for the rear axle.
The i3 concept represents BMW's offer for the small city car market. It's powered by an electric motor which develops 170 hp and 250 Nm and is able to accelerate the car from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in around 8 seconds. with 0 CO2 emissions, the BMW i3 will be ideal for large urban areas.
