The rumored BMW i8, based on the EfficientDynamics concept, has been caught on camera recently. The BMW i8 spy video was shot while the prototype was being filmed for a commercial or promotional clip. Most sources believe that the BMW i8 caught in this video was actually the production version prototype of the EfficientDynamics concept. However, these are pure speculations at the moment. The BMW i8 is definitely closer to a production model, but it still shows various details that might not be suitable for marketing.
Various sources are reporting that the BMW i8 will have a 1.5-liter 3-cylinder turbodiesel engine under its hood, which will get help from two electric motors.
The total output of the BMW i8 is rumored to be around the 350 hp with an 800 Nm torque output. If this is the case, it means the BMW i8 will require less than 5 seconds for the 0-100 km/h sprint and that it will reach a 250 km/h top speed.
The production version BMW i8 is expected to hit the spot light sometime in 2013 and a rather steep price tag. More than 170,000 EUR.
