The electric Chevrolet Spark EV was announced today by General Motors, which says it will start selling it from 2013. Apparently, Chevrolet will focus its marketing efforts for the electric Spark on California. Chevy's electric Spark is designed for short urban trips, and all-electric commutes. So far, Chevrolet did not disclose any actual details regarding the Spark EV, except the fact that it will be powered by nanophosphate lithium-ion battery packs developed by A123 Systems.

The powertrain of the Spark EV was tested so far in Shanghai (Sail EV), Korea (Cruze EV) and India (Beat EV). GM used all the data gathered in these tests to finalize the development of the Spark EV, which will complete the company's line-up of environment friendly vehicles.
