FIA has announced today the sanctions for the Renault F1 team and the people involved in the crash scandal involving Nelson Piquet Jr. The World Motor Sport Council found that Flavio Briatore, Pat Symonds and Nelson Piquet Jr. from the Renault F1 team have conspired and caused a deliberate crash at the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix. FIA considers this event of such severity that it requires permanent disqualification from the FIA Formula One World Championship. However, because of the efforts of the Renault F1 team to identify the people involved, it will not be disqualified until the end of the 2011 season.
FIA also requires Renault F1 to pay for the entire investigation.
Flavio Briatore has been banned for life from Formula 1 and FIA has instructed officials to not allow access to him in any areas under the FIA's jurisdiction. Mr. Symonds received the same sanctions, but for a limited period of five years.
FIA has confirmed that Piquet Jr. has immunity from individual sanctions under the International Sporting Code in relation to this incident.
FIA also concluded that Fernando Alonso was not involved in any way in this incident.
