Fiat announced today that it's going to premiere the all-wheel-drive version of the Panda at the 2012 Paris auto show next month. The Fiat Panda 4x4, today at its third generation, is the first four-wheel drive model in the A segment. Fiat's 4x4 Panda comes with a 5-door body style and measures 368 cm in length, 167 cm in width and 160 cm in height. With a wheelbase of 230 cm, a front track of 141 cm and a rear one of 140 cm, the 4x4 Panda hopes to compete with off-road vehicles of much greater dimensions. To be able to do so, the Panda 4x4 comes equipped with a torque-on-demand transmission system with two differentials and an electronically controlled coupling. Its permanent four-wheel drive system is controlled electronically to send traction on the axle that has the most grip.

The Fiat Panda 4x4 is equipped as standard with ESC and an ELD (Electronic Locking Differential) function.

Fiat will sell the 4x4 Panda six-speed transmission, which features a low-range first gear. The engine choices include a 85 HP 0.9 TwinAir Turbo and the 75 HP 1.3 MultiJet II diesel.

The equipment list of the Panda 4x4 includes manual climate control system, CD/MP3 radio, 15" burnished alloy rims, 175/65 R15 M+S tires, electric rear view mirrors, central locking system with remote control and rear head restraints. The price of the Panda 4x4 is going to be announced at a later date.
